As a matter of principle, the best MUN I have ever organized is always the next one. This thinking came from watching many interviews with Anna Wintour – a personality that has shown great leadership and vision, managing to be the editor of one of the most iconic brands in the world, Vogue. It does not matter whether you are into fashion or not, Anna is definitely a leader to pay attention.

The next one, in my case, is the 19th AMUN, Brazil’s most traditional MUN and perhaps even Latin America’s. What motivates me to be the Under-Secretary-General for Academic Affairs of AMUN is the seriousness and responsibility of the staff. They are committed not only to write study guides, but also to dive into a comprehensive research that will constitute scholarship on the topic. That is the reason why, year after year, we organize and publish a book composed by all of the articles produced, because we believe the academic seriousness and quality of the content produced by AMUN’s Directors should not be restricted to the 30 to 40 delegates of each committee.

Finally, what drives me to think the 19th AMUN is the best MUN I have ever organized is our social and environmental responsibility. We are not only committed to making an 100% sustainable event (we plan trees, reduce/reuse/recycle materials), but also to making sure no one is left behind. In addition to AMUN Kids, our brother-project that teaches children of underprivileged areas on the outskirts of Brasilia – where AMUN takes place – about general notions of Human Rights and the UN principles, this year we are also looking forward to giving financial aid to students that wouldn’t be able to participate otherwise. And this, making sure everyone has access to great educational experiences, is what motivates me.
