Over the past years, AntwerpMUN has aimed to bring the concept of Model United Nations to the students of Antwerp, and to welcome internationals to our city. We highly value this cultural exchange, and pride ourselves on the many experiences and new friends we have been able to facilitate along the way. This year, we will be celebrating our First Lustrum, meaning we will exist five years in 2017. We are excited to see how many people have participated over the past years, and hope for a great edition in March.
For our next edition, in March 2017, we set ourselves an ambitious goal to double in committees, also meaning adding many places to our potential delegate list. We have worked very hard over the past months to promote our MUN at our university, in the city, and beyond our borders. The past few years have shown an increase in delegate participation and general interest, which is a trend we aim to continue over the course of the next years.
The University of Antwerp has been a great partner to us, taking much interest in the concept we aim to offer the students. This partnership we hope to expand further, working together on all different facets of our conference.
If all goes well, we aspire to professionalize and grow further. The concept of Model United Nations can be tricky to explain to those not familiar with it, and what it exactly entails. Convincing as many students as we can convince is therefore vital, and will be an important task for our Board and the Board’s to come!
In five years, when we will be celebrating our Second Lustrum, I am confident AntwerpMUN will be even bigger and more streamlined, offering a high-quality simulation to those new to the MUN-world, while challenging the more experienced participants. This could mean introducing committees of other institutions, as well as looking into the possibility of alternative-committees, including historical ones! As a well-organized Social Evening program is extremely important to us (helping all delegates mingle with each other in a fun way), we will invest over the next years to create some great memories (and maybe some slight lack thereof ;) ).
All in all, the future looks bright for AntwerpMUN. While we are still extremely busy with our conference between Thursday March 9 and Sunday March 12 (hosting an introduction night on Wednesday March 8), we hope to have given you a slight clue towards where we are going with our association.
If you are interested in visiting the historical city of Antwerp, getting to know new locals, and debating the world’s most pressing issues, why not join us for our conference?
Registration is still possible until Friday, December 23rd. Be sure to check out our website at Home | AntwerpMUN for all the details, as well as a sign-up form. And for the latest updates, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/AntwerpMUN
