If you purchase the best truck skateboard from a reputable manufacturer, then too you must emphasize on the maintenance tips and suggestions so that you can always ensure the longevity of your skateboard. That is why here, we have gathered a few maintenance tips for your skateboard. Take a look.
Clean the Bearings
You must clean and lubricate the bearings regularly so that these are always in the best of their condition. If you don’t clean the bearings, the wheel will not spin easily. You can do clean the bearings altogether or one by one. Firstly, the axle nut and the wheel has to be removed. Next, keep the nut and the two small washers on either side of the wheel aside. You have to pry them out of the wheels without damaging the bearings. Even after cleaning, if you notice that these are not functioning properly, then you can always replace them.
Bettering the Grip & Board Connection
While gripping the board, one tends to search for air pockets between the board and the grip. One tends to pop the bubble with the razor blade’s corner, pushing the air out via that hole. Usually, more and more you skate the board, the better the connection between the grip and board.
Adjust the Axle Nuts
A single nut(1/2") holds the wheels attached to the axels. You should try to tighten the nut as much as possible without decreasing the spin of the wheel. You should be able to feel just a small amount of play while moving the wheel from one side to another. A nut can be tightened or loosened than how it was originally set and it can also be corrected accordingly.
Adjust the Trucks
First of all, you must know how to tighten the trucks because it is these that determine how smoothly or hard the skateboard will turn in its course. You only need a single nut (9/16") on each truck to be able to adjust it. Turn it upside down and you will find the large nut at the end of the kingpin bolt. Now loosen the nut on each truck a half or quarter by turning it counterclockwise at a time. But make sure you don’t overdo it as you will be then running the risk of the nut falling off the kingpin.
Adjust the Truck Mounting Bolts
The truck is securely attached to the skateboard by a set of 4 bolts and 4 nuts. Although the nuts have a nylon locking feature they are quite likely to loosen with time. Therefore, you have to tighten them back from time to time.
Apart from these, you should prevent your skateboard from getting wet or being exposed to extreme temperatures. So, make sure you follow these tips well because skateboards are bound to be subjected to a lot of wear and tear even if you get the best trucks for skateboard, and you cannot stop that; what you can do instead, is maintain it well so that it runs for a long time.
