The UPMUN had a different way of working, the director of the committee encourage us to talk a lot in public and she asked the most advanced ones in public speaking skills, to back up the other ones, it was all about debates and caucus, so for ME an extremely shy person was a huge challenge and as i said at first i didn't like it at all, because i was out of my comfort zone. Soon after i started debating in front of everyone instead of hiding in theory, writting parts of the proposal or searching for alliance -all in a low profile style- i was able to exploit the public profesional speaker that I am now, started very shy at first but then some of the delegates that were good at it, started helping and giving some advice to the ones (me included) that weren't so good at it, they were sooo good people and I won something I haven't been able to found no where else, making really strong friendship ties with MUN delegates and a lot of public speaking skills just from looking and hearing the tips and how the others did it, they had SOOO many creatives way of calling everyone's attention
What i discovered was how IMPORTANT it is in international relations to be able to CALL THE ATTENTION of the public while debating or exposing your countries solution for an international problem, i guess it's everything about that, everything is about MAKING AN IMPACT on the receiver getting an answer from him in the way he thinks about the issue or an emotional answer of empathy, compassion or solidarity with the others, making him have a more human point of view even though if it's against his or his country interests. That is what international relations are all about --> PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS! and that was exactly what i won at UPMUN in the better way i could have done with the fellowship of the other's delegates, this did a experience that at first sight was not a one that we liked because we weren't comfortable with how they worked and how the MUN was about, a very nice experience where i learned in three days what i didn't learned in the past 19 years.
