Joining the military is a mind over matter decision and is something you get into when you are passionate about serving. It is exciting to see that a lot more people are joining the military and making a success of the opportunity. With all the stress that our soldiers are going through, it would be upsetting if it does not result in success. No matter what soldiers go through, it remains a career, which comes with a lot of sacrifice.
There are some steps you can take to help your military career be a success story. Everyone has a different definition of what success looks like, but career success is gratifying. You will be required to write a military biography and you should be sure to make it as honest as possible. It does not make sense to add false information in your application. You want to be accepted for who you are and the requirements are not insane. Here are some more steps to follow once you are in the military.
Starting out, the military is all about discipline and you can show a lot of that by following orders. Sometimes you will be given orders that goes against what you learned in basic training. In the moment, you are going to have to ignore some of the things you were taught and just buckle up. Following orders are going to get you out of a lot of trouble and show that you have respect for those who have higher positions than you.
There is not a lot of time to rest one you are in the military. In those few moments that you do have time to relax, don’t let your guard down. You want to remember that you are there to do a job and that the job is 24/7. Make sure that you are prepared for anything at any time. This is going to help you emotionally when there are unexpected moments.
As much as you will be required to follow orders given by your supervisors, don’t let your colleagues push you around. Think about the days you wrote your army bio and find some strength in those moments. It takes a lot to prepare for the military and you need to not allow anyone to make you look weak. Stand up for yourself in the moments when you feel weak.
Gain transferrable skills
While you are in the military, find ways to attain some transferable skills. After you leave the military, you are going to have to fit into the real world. These skills are going to help you find your way back into the world. A lot of soldiers find this stage the most challenging because they have missed so much time. This should only serve as motivation to partake in any opportunity you can use to adapt to life after the army.
No one wants to repeat the same rules to anyone over and over again. Be sure to pay attention the first time and make a note if you must. There are a lot of rules to be followed and it can become exhausting trying to keep up. Clear your mind of everything that is happening outside of that moment of teaching and take it all in. Your supervisors will recognise that you are on top of your game, which could set you up for promotions.
You will have the opportunity to study while in the military and you should grab this opportunity with both hands. These correspondence courses are more valuable than you know and can give you an opportunity to stand out. Everyone in the military knows how to write a military bio but you can add to that writing skills. Whatever your passion is, be sure to pursue it even if you are in the military.
It is easy to lose motivation during chaos, but you want to hold on to it for as long as you can. There are going to be moments when you feel like giving up, but remain as motivated as possible. Remember, things always gets better and as cliché as it may sound, don’t forget that. Keep your head in the game and be a hard worker. Your efforts will be seen by those who can make a difference in your career.
No one likes a yes-man, but even fewer likes someone who never wants to do anything. Do not let laziness turn you into someone who always have an excuse to get out of the harder tasks. You are not in the military for a holiday and excuses are often seen for what they are. Be ready to work as and when you are asked to and trust the process.
It is so important to remain positive when you are faced with challenges every day. There are also a few quieter days in the military that might make your mind wander more than it should. Do not let these days cause you to become depressed beyond repair. You can make a success of this opportunity and with hard work, it is possible. Forget about what you heard the military is like and create your own experience. You have done a lot to get to this point and it can be a success for you.
