After having worked more hours than scheduled, these 14 delegates coming from the most relevant countries on the subject have almost reached an agreement. They worked on several drafts yesterday and the day before, and then got too merged all in one.
However, in this meeting where dialogue, diplomacy and respect are the fundamentals, a test on patience and solution seeks was passed to these delegates, since Internet has stopped for an hour or two. This fact was getting everybody on its nerves, but fortunately these experienced delegates found the way to deal with technical problems, and decided to work in small groups so that every subject and branch would be covered.
However, not everything is tough in the highest of the institutions of the UN. We witnessed a particularly amazing speech performed by the delegation of France, and suspiciously familiar to all those fans of Britney Spears. As a consequence of a punishment the chair and co-chair of the Security Council made the delegate read the lyrics of one of the most famous songs of the pop singer, “Hit me baby one more time”, as if it was his own speech.
Within this atmosphere of hard work and hard punishments, they seemed to be really about to be voting for a draft resolution, and soon a resolution may be adopted. We might remember you that in the Security Council the resolutions adopted by the delegates are not mere recommendations, but positive law for ratifying countries and, therefore, mandatory.
At the closing of this edition we are still waiting for an announcement from the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is expected to arrive during the evening. We will keep you informed.
