CMUN Opening speech, held by Pau Petit, C'MUN 2014 Secretary-General.
World leaders and other stakeholders stand at the cusp of great opportunity as we shape the next global decisions during C’MUN 2014.
This is a chance to set the world on a path that will be in the hands of a younger generation of future leaders attending the conference. It’s not just a mere international simulation where enthusiastic young people meet and discuss; we want it to be more,. We want it to be an international arena that also serves to bridge cultures among the young in order to achieve peace and sustainable development. The world is in a critical situation as we see armed confl icts, destruction of Mother Earth and severe violations of human rights therefore, we need to see a change before it’s too late. You may know that when written in Chinese, the word “crisis” is composed of two characters: one represents danger, the other represents opportunity. Now, you have the opportunity to engage and be part of the solution.
The Action Agenda for C’MUN 2014 highlights the topics of international security, human rights, status of women, action against corruption, democratic values, migration issues, refugees and ethnic minorities. I encourage all the youth to be creative and imaginative in order to fi nd solutions, as well as being realistic about our possibilities. Nevertheless, remember what Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. So I urge you to dream because every positive change in the world starts with you. I strongly agree with the former-Secretary General, Raül Jiménez, that C’MUN is an engine of change and I would like to thank him for all his support throughout the years that he dedicated to empower young people to make a positive difference in the world.
Youth of today, leaders of tomorrow; take this opportunity to make a better world! We’ll be sending each of the outcomes to the “older” respective committees and councils so they take the youth voice into account.
