The reason behind? A fun and gamy photo exhibition in order to collect games and books for children with cancer. The vast economic crisis our country is going through makes it impossible for providing to many of the hospitals even cotton or needles in some cases (for some period of time). Let alone games or books. This is a luxury. Yet these fighters of life totally deserve them. Totally deserve our support with actions not just words or likes.
All of us said yes! And this is when I started becoming “Model for a cause”!
- So Efthimi, please, explain to us what happened inside your brilliant mind that made you think of this philanthropic action?
On October 2015, during one of our meetings at Locked, the first escape rooms company in Thessaloniki, we thought that we should create something innovative and original. So, I thought of creating the first column of interviews globally, that will take place inside an escape room. We have seen interviews in many places, but never in Escape rooms. So, we managed to build a global originality and to "imprison" 42 different personalities of the country, interview and photoshoot them inside the rooms. On June, our photographs turned into a charitable Photo Exhibition at Toms Flagship, in order to support Children who are fighting with cancer.
I was lucky, because Vassilis Matsos and Irene Iliadou loved my idea from the very beginning and helped me so much with the production of the interviews. And as a result, Locked guested this year something really innovative.
- How successful was the event?
The success was huge. Besides the hundreds of people that honored us with their attendance on the night of the Exhibition, more than 700 new toys and books were gathered, which were later shared through the Cancer Institute "Lampsi" to children that fight the disease, so that they can somehow "escape" for a while from their difficult treatments.
- Share with us the funniest moment and a moment that made you feel proud along the way!
In one of our first interviews, I wanted to combine a spooky room of our company with one special guest, so I invited a funeral manager! During the interview he hit his face (not bad) and said in laughter: "Soon we' ll need a colleague". The whole team couldn't stop laughing.
As for the most proud moment, it was on the day of the event. I was watching all these people I didn't know, coming and donating toys and books. I was touched and felt that this was the most creative thing I've ever done in my life. This route from an idea to an innovative project and a philanthropic exhibition made me really proud.\
- Are we expecting more actions like these soon?
The column, after it's big success, will be repeated this year. Season 2 will start at the beginning of September and there are many people that already want to be "imprisoned" and take part to this odd project!
- What do you see as the biggest challenge in today’s Greece?
The biggest challenge is this passion of a person, that even though he or she know that everything around him/her fall apart, he/she insists on "reconstructing" Greece. Well, it might as well be a sign of madness. But madness is the key to success.
- What advice do you give to young people staying in Greece and fighting?
We can't fool ourselves, things are not easy. However, I believe now, more than ever, that people with authentic talent, passion and love for what they do, will stand out and as it gets "clearer" only those able and those who truly deserve will grow.
Thank you for your time Efthimi. It is an honor to call you my friend! And if we have people like you in Greece I stay optimistic!
By the way, it was because of Second Digital Forum that we came closer! And now we create all these wonderful things! My advice? Do not miss a conference in your life. Not just for the knowledge but especially for the people!!!!
