As all those kids diagnosed with ADHD make their way up through school and into college, there are ever more in the university benches. Yes, it might sound counterintuitive with the above statement, nonetheless, it’s true. Students with ADHD have a disability and they don’t want attention drawn to it. The problem with ADHD, however, is that this discomfort makes the condition and the situation worse, thereby making it even more difficult for them to manage the condition.

There are a lot of behavioral strategies that will help students with ADHD. Make sure you find out what those are for the students in your class that suffer and try to apply them as best you can. This can mean trying to create more structure as well as creating situations where people aren’t sitting still and listening all the time but interacting and doing things as well. This might not just be good for your ADHD students, either!
People with ADHD simply want to get the same opportunities as everybody else. The least we can do is give them those opportunities. Generally, it isn’t even that hard to do so. All it requires is clear communication between you and the student so that you’re both on the same page and you know what they need and what you should do.
If you do that, then your class will be better for it and these students will show you they can truly shine. After all, they’ve managed to beat their disability and get themselves into university despite it. So there must be something special inside them.
