Ireland is what England originally set out to be but miserably failed. If your idea about England is based solely on books and films then Ireland is the place to visit. With iconic places, many mysteries to discover in every single place and in student-friendly prices, it is very much surprising that is not a MUN hot destination. London is indeed nice, but Dublin touches perfection. However, in this piece my interest focuses on the oldest Irish MUN, that being ÉireMUN.
Currently, in its 5th installment, it welcomed more than 100 delegates -from various destinations- at the prestigious University College Cork. Huckleberry doughnuts offered free snacks and the Irish UN Youth Delegate with the Lord Mayor of Cork marked a rigorous opening ceremony.
When it comes to academics, it was a pleasant surprise that one of the committees reached consensus on thoroughly controlled documents and history took an interesting turn with the Falklands war for the crisis topic. Another point that has to be stressed out is the effective and simple set of Rules of Procedure that really facilitates and fosters creative discussions. Aside from the fact that a strong working mentality was created so that by the end of the conference everyone was quite familiar with each other, luxurious meals and well put together DJ playlists made the social events of EireMUN particularly successful! Lastly, there was free accommodation for the chairs.
It’s not all that perfect though. As the current SG, Migle Andrunavičiūtė informs me, MUN is a relatively new activity and it is very difficult at the moment to properly run workshops and receive special State recognition as a society sometimes. However, some funds from bodies like Failte Ireland continue to fuel the dream of simulations. Overall, a small but dynamic MUN in a place where you can get to enjoy amazing drinks at friendly prices! If you want to join the Irish hype you can always sign up for TrinMUN (Dublin, 9-11/3 2018 )by applying here.
