About the University
Fontys University of Applied Sciencesis one of the biggest universities in the Netherlands with over 44,000 students,11% out of which account for international students. It has three campuses in the southern part of the Netherlands, in cities such as Eindhoven, Tilburg and Venlo, all close to one another. The name “Fontys” originates from the Latin word “fons” which means “source” and the founders wanted to emphasize that this institution is the source of knowledge and inspiration.
The University offersover 200 Bachelors and Masters programson three different languages - Dutch, English and German. The university board recognized the need for diversity and inviting foreign students who enriched the institution and raised its ratings started early on. Independent rating agency Keuzegids ranked Fontys as one of the best universities of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. In 2014, CEO Nienke Meijer was the “most influential person” in the Netherlands.

Study at Fontys
Also known as the “Brainport region”, the campus is internationally accepted center of science, innovations and technology. Eindhoven is home to Phillips company, but it is also the city with a lot of students, and most of the activities are adjusted to the student life. The Fontys Eindhoven campus consists of multiple units which are close to one another, near the city center and the railway station. Generally speaking, the city is the international center of high-tech businesses.
During the first two years of the undergraduate studies, the students have the combination of theoretical and applied lessons, with projects included. The third year is slightly specific and during the first semester, the student is obliged to go on an internship in a local or international company, whereas during the second term, the student chooses a program according to their own choice. The fourth and final years revolves around the graduation project. The first-year students can be included in the excellence-program.
Tilburg is a dynamic city with rich culture and artistic lifestyle. The campus in Tilburg is located on the outskirts of the city, but it is well-connected to the city center with bus lines as well as bicycle lanes. Tilburg has a lot to offer to the students, and, currently, approximately 30,000 students are accommodated here.
Venlo is the city five minutes away from the German border and because of such specific location, it is known for its entrepreneurial spirit. It is one of the most important logistic sites in the region and this is the description matches the Fontys campus that has students of 50 different nationalities. The campus offers internships for the students who would like to try working for one of the companies in the Netherlands, Germany or the other parts of Europe. The priority of this campus is to encourage students with entrepreneurial aspirations. Ever since 1994, the campus offers programs in English. The programs are offered from the fields of engineering, economy, logistics, IT and pedagogy. The center itself dates back to the 14th century, but Venlo is one of the main trade points on the way to Rotterdam Port, the second largest port in the world.
