Did you just decide to sell your phone or tablet and upgrade it to a new generation device, or you just want to make some extra bucks, but you are scared that the new owner of the device will gain access to all of your photos, phone numbers and secrets? According to News4c.com, Here are five easy steps to avoid this.
1. Remove the SD card
Most of the photos, videos and downloads are saved on the memory card so do not forget in it in the phone or tablet when you sell in. Also, if you want to be able to use it on the next phone, before you remove it form the phone be sure to deactivate any encryption settings you haveon the card.
2. Log out for any social media and Google accounts
Do not forget to log out from Facebook, Google and any other private accounts.
3. If you have the possibility, encrypt any data from the phone
If you do this nobody will be able to see and use your data against you, even if they recover it somehow. To activate the encryption go in your settings and, depending what smart phone you have, it can be found in Lock Screen and Security or Require Lock Screen. Enable the encryption option. Bear in mind that some phones come with it already enabled or even without this option.
4. Factory reset the phone or tablet
Even though this will wipe the phone or tablet’s memory, it’s still a little bit unsafe because the storage only will be marked as empty, but the data will not be actually removed from the device. At this step be very careful to make sure Automatic Restore is not active. To restore your phone go Settings > Backup and Reset > Factory Data Reset.
5. Fill the memory and factory reset again
Fill the memory of the phone with movies and large data files, and then smaller ones till the memory is full. Then factory reset your phone once more so that the previous data will be lost.
