Is Eurovision what it seems?
Eurovision Song Contest is something most Europeans grow up with. It was started in 1956 by the European Broadcasting Union in an effort to unite war-torn Europe of that time. Since then, once a year, Eurovision is being held and keeps promoting the unity and peace in the world.
Although Eurovision is famous for its eccentric and overdone performances, many times the songs actually deal with real issues people in the world face. There is a plethora of activist songs that shine a light on important issues concerning human rights, LGBT, peace in the world, unity of people, gender equality, women empowerment, and general empowerment of all people. This kind of activism may seem insignificant, but it actually does raise awareness of many people since it is so mainstream.
In honour of Eurovision, I have decided to assemble a couple of recent activist songs that might not have done so well, but definitely send a good message and should be heard.
