What we think looks good in a store may not necessarily justify the home decor you were going for and that can be disheartening. Therefore, here are a few common interior design mistakes one must avoid:
Don’t paint first
Fact: It is easier to pick out the paint according to fabrics and furniture rather than selecting the furniture and decor accessories after the paint work is done. This is another widely prevalent mistake. It would be less painful to pick a paint color that matches your furniture. Rather than having a stressful time trying to find pieces that complements your style, paint after selection of all your interior decor accessories.
First and foremost, you need to understand the utility of your home decor. If you’ll have kids or pets running around the house, tarnishing everything in sight, it is pointless to decorate your house with high end furniture or stark, white walls. White walls can add a dimension to your house when decorated with appropriate decor ideas but can look effete when left blank or if underdone. People usually don’t consider the aftermath post decorative endeavors. Know yourself and your family before decorating.
It was a plate, a book or a candle that caught your eye years back, and now you have a solid collection of the same. We all do! But you need to know how to display them for a better aesthetic appeal. Scattering them all around the house may seem haphazard and disorganized but displaying your collection in groupings or small arrangements can do wonders. Your collection is precious, unique and beautiful, give it the respect and exhibit space it deserves.
Wires messing with your decor
In today’s world, we factually require charging points and power outlets almost everywhere. Power cords and wires running around the house can give the decor a bad name. Hence, it is advisable to get them done early on in the interior design process when it is cheaper and more affordable. Apart from disguising the cords, having floor power outlets also give you the freedom to move your furniture around for any rearrangement.
A little help never hurt
There is no shame is asking for some advice or helpful feedback from your friends and family. Hire an interior design for fruitful design ideas and advice. If you don’t have the budget to hire an interior design, get your friends and family to give you their opinions. You don’t have to necessarily follow or implement their ideas but getting multiple inputs can help you adorn your home better.
With numerous mistakes being made all the time in life, don’t let your interior design be one of them. Home is what you call your own, it’s where you unwind and relax, it’s where you spend time with your family, make it pleasant.
