In a competition, a person only has two fates, it’s either to sorrowfully loose or cheerfully win. This is where the curses come. Desperation is the curse of defeat while greediness is the curse of victory.
When you are at the brick of victory, you only think of one thing, that is to win and win so that perks keep overflowing. You imagine what life would be without the price you gained the last time you taste victory. Perks not always material but can also be abstract such as excitement, thrill, or any feeling you may want to associate. It’s irresistible right? The feeling of elation. The prestige most of all. You want to cherish everything. Then you ask for more, and more, and more, and that’s it, greediness it is! You are now preoccupied of winning. You forget or intentionally not remember anything or anyone around you. The sole objective is to attain none other than victory. You started overthinking and there it is, you eventually loose. From then on, you have proven to yourself that you are not strong enough.
On the other hand, there is always someone out there who wants to take over your position. Someone who would like to experience the feeling you had. In doing so, that person may seek for any means to attain such glory. The last time you will find out, you are already doing things you never have imagined doing before. This may take several forms. It varies from mild to acute from tolerable to gravest. Your brain does not take control of your mindset anymore. Your desire for power overshadowed your rationality.
These two curses are extremes. These are worst case scenarios though. But all because of social norms that the society dictates, we still restrain ourselves. The conscience keeps knocking at our doors. An echo we repeatedly hear. Nonetheless, you weigh the circumstance and think what would be the consequences. The consequences that may jeopardize you, you will avoid, and n the contrary pursue when its advantageous on your part. Human being you are, you’re very vulnerable to the temptations that echoes from your heart and mind.
