I didn’t know what to expect when a couple of weeks ago I was in charge of chairing DISEC Committee at URJCMUN 2016.
I was coming back from UBIMUN in Birmingham ,and the experience had been quite intense and pretty interesting, so I was arriving in Madrid the day before the conference started, tired because I spent the last week travelling around England and sleepless as ever.
Anyway, I had the opportunity to co-chair the committee with one of the most amazing persons I have ever met, we connected from the beginning and we tried our best to give the delegates an unforgettable MUN.
We tried the delegates to “narrow ties” creating our proper gossip box in the Committee , together with a sold of carnations (with a note attached to it ) we had the whole DISEC Committee eating out of our hand, and frankly we could appreciate how many different people started to build some kind of relationships, which we set as our aim from the beginning.
As the Committee was full of newbies, we wanted to transmit our passion for the Models so we didn’t show ourselves very strict and we were focused on the flow of the debate above all. We tried to be supportive for the shy delegations and nag a couple of time some countries which were interrupting others while speaking. But having no other complaint, I must say they worked a lot and thanked us for transmitting our experience and previous knowledge with them, what apparently encouraged some of them to take over the leadership of the Committee.
On the other hand, even if the delegates could pass two resolutions (one in each topic) and made great efforts to reach consensus in the main topics, many special facts occurred . For example, while discussing our first topic on the “Violations of the Non Proliferation Treaty”, the delegates made up a policy according to which “not everything is back or white but also 50 Shades of Grey”..
