Who has the right to defend its territory? As we have seen in the last few weeks a lot of international security has been the topic of social media, news, international debates, and important people´s opinion. The United Nations looks for equality, more specific gender equality. But why not looking for a worldwide equality? What differences are there if a persona was born in the United States or in Egypt or in Syria? What differences people who believe in God from people who don’t believe in anything or believe in Allah?
I am talking about international security, unfortunately that is how international security is represented nowadays. It is true, as every person has the right to defend him or herself, every country has the right to defend itself too. Now, using the same theory that every person can defend his or herself, it is not the same a 5-year old girl trying to defend herself against a 30-year old strong man. That is what happens with countries in his moment, it is not the same developed countries defending and attacking small undeveloped countries. A thousand excuses can come to mind in this moment, the first one will be the Islamic State attack, but is every Syrian part of IS, 99% not.
Why is the Security Council managed for 5 countries? What happens with the more than 150 countries else that are part of the United Nations?International security, as I can see, has been managed by a few that of course will do a lot. If any of the readers know about the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, why can five countries have access to it and undeveloped countries can´t? For me that is how international security is seemed, as a security for a few.
Is the Islamic State causing fear and disaster? Yes, it is, and all of us have seen that maybe in front of us or maybe thanks to social media. But have developed countries caused fear and disaster in the other side of the world? Unfortunately, the answer is also yes. International Security has transformed into international power, which country, which organization, which agency has more power than the other one.“An Eye for an Eye Will Make the Whole World Blind”. Mohandas Gandhi.
Of course Gandhi was right, we are destroying ourselves, our future and our home. When I say home, I am referring to the whole world, not just the earth as a planet but also the people who are living in it. Every person is the same as the one next to or behind, we all are part of one home which little by little is disappearing. The question is, is the world blind yet or when is it going to happen?
Finally, talking again about International Security, how fair is this topic in real life? Of course it is necessary to know how and with what you can defend, it is true that countries with more power will have more access to the how and what, but with power also a lot of responsibility comes up. Maybe we are going to start a time when international security will be needed by all, but before bombing, attacking or shooting, we have to think if it is worth it or not. Of course it is not understandable to watch people suffering because of the Islamic State, but I think is even worse to watch governments “defending” itself while destroying others. Governments, and even more developed ones are supposed to be seemed not as the most powerful ones but the ones that will be cool and will take the lead against any type of attack with thinking not just acting.
