Each era brings with it big changes that redefine over and over again our goals, aims and dreams. Twenty-first century is not any different. If you are reading this, you probably know the importance of the Internet. On the news, you may have heard that terroristic attacks are influencing economies of the Western Europe. Melting of ice on the poles might have not worried your grandparents as much as it worries you. The world became widely globalized where people are all engaged in the network. In addition, these rapid changes will lead to trends that will change nature of human lifestyle, jobs and careers.
We are witnessing that today everyone has an opinion on almost any matter. The opinion of experts became almost irrelevant compared to the opinion of 1000 users of a certain servis. Expertise is slowly dying while facing rankings and ratings, while people are seeking for better education and better information and data. In that need for broader education, people stopped going to school just because for the sake of going to school, but in order to gain more and better knowledge and experiences. In that manner, careers became broadly re-defined as well. It is very unlikely that in the future a person will spend the whole working age at doing one job, but more likely that she or he will change jobs together with her or his interests.
- Technological advancement
We already see results of new collaborative technologies all around us. Majority of us has a profile on at least one of the social networks. We look for data online, not in the institutes and libraries. It is very likely that soon, most of the common knowledge will be in “the cloud”, on reach of anyone with the Internet access. As one of the consequences of such digitalization, jobs will need to adapt to the environment, hence use of computers and Internet will become important part of human literacy.
Even though that technological revolution left its impact on lifestyle of people, one fact cannot be avoided-we are part of the nature. Management of scarce resources is becoming a big issue for world’s major industries, which are seeking for more sustainable resources. Huge investments are being made in research for new, better, synthetic materials that could substitute the organic ones taken from the nature in order to preserve the environment. However, governments fail at getting the whole territories of their countries pollution free, which brings up an issue of environmental justice. People need equal rights, in order to be expected to contribute equally to the community. Hence, the right on clean environment will become an important segment of the world’s biggest leaders sooner or later.
