The Montreal United Nations Conference (MUNC) has within five years grown to become one of the leading international conferences in Canada, with participants from all over the world making their way to the City of Montreal each November for a weekend full of debate, diplomacy and networking. Each year, new delegations and delegates experience MUNC and discover a unique conference that stands out.
MUNC 2018 can build on the progress of previous years, reaching new heights and connecting more delegates than ever before. By continuing to deliver quality learning experiences for participants, focusing on authenticity and realism, the conference can be special in what it offers delegates. It is the only international simulation in Canada that regroups students from secondary school, college and university all in one setting.
MUNC 2017 received support from the United Nations Secretary-General, the Governor General of Canada, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Premier of Quebec, the Mayor of Montreal and prominent international organizations including Tourism Montreal. The conference is unique because of the high level of support it receives from the public and private sector. The keynote speaker at MUNC 2017 is the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament. Thanks to Dawson College, participants can expect these quality speakers from the conference resulting in a rich experience like no other.
Our sponsor Dawson College organized Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) 2017 in March of this year, with over 2500 delegates and 500 staff members coming from all around the world. The resounding success of WorldMUN 2017 has helped to raise awareness of Dawson College’s brand and reputation on organizing conferences. This level of expertise provides participants with a reassurance and confidence that they will be partaking in a simulation focused on maximizing the delegate experience.
Dawson College will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in the academic year of 2018-2019, providing a perfect opportunity for MUNC to build on its newly-launched Alumni Association. By connecting conference alumni and providing them with ways to continue their involvement and engagement with MUNC, the Alumni Association will grow stronger and alumni will be able to familiarize themselves with the next generation that will keep the flame going.
MUNC 2017 is the first edition of the conference to feature international staffers. Syed Haziq Masood of Texas A&M University is chairing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. He previously served as Secretary-General of C’MUN Barcelona 2017. Additionally, Luisa Falcone of University of Rome Tor Vergata is an Assistant Crisis Director on the United Nations Security Council. In the years ahead, the conference staff at MUNC can become more international by having individuals from throughout the world coming to organize it. This is a feature that will differentiate MUNC from other simulations in Canada.
Over the course of the next five years, MUNC will continue to expand its international partnerships with more conferences and delegations, thus creating new opportunities for participants looking to travel to Canada. By strengthening the Model UN community, MUNC is positioning itself as a leading international conference for delegates wanting to try an experience different from any other.
