It is, often, asserted that media has, always, been the main source of information. Everywhere one goes, media is undoubtedly present in every corner… As if it is a necessity of life (In those modern times!!). However, media needs some sort of a lively engine that should keep it alive and working. So, the best topic, which is much debated at present in the whole world, is “Terrorism”. Unfortunately, the globe is no longer a safe place to be, or so it has been that way since the creation of Mankind. Actually, this new modern term of terrorism, perfectly, describes the new worldly, critical status…. Terror, fear, murder, rape, vandalism, etc …. It is, definitely, a world of fools!! Yet, how does the media reporting interfere in this entire ordeal? How can one classify this reporting? And, is it, really, beneficial to broadcast those dismal events to the public?!
Whoever may ask these days, the direct answer would be to highlight the “amazing” work of the journalists and reporters; In other words, they are considered to be objective, courageous, and straight to the point… As a matter of fact, there are people who believe that thanks to the media reporting on the plague of terrorism, the world can be a better place for generations to come. They think that it may help to raise awareness and self-consciousness by uncovering the true and ugly face of the truth…. According to a lot of magazines and newspapers, every current event should be, in a way or another, illustrated and transmitted to the dear readers for the sake of morality and responsibility. It is, actually, same as a wakeup call to all of those who are not self-conscious of the undeniable threat. Moreover, so much has happened in those few years; The 9/11 event, the war that broke out in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc... (Especially in the Middle East). And for now, there is the talk of the year; “ISIS” or “DAESH”…
In fact, there are those who believe that media is doing a real nice covering concerning this matter; Now, everybody knows that this “Islamic organization”, or that is how it wants to be called, is a hazardous menace to every country in the world, from East to West… No one is safe, to say the truth!! ; “Tunisia”, “Egypt”, “ Sudan”, “Yemen”, “Brussels”, “Paris”, etc… Even though people are, deeply, paranoid and scared, it is a fact that thanks to the media reporting they acquire the knowledge that they should have to do a counter attack and act in the right moment.
Furthermore, as one may notice after the attack of ISIS on Paris, people from all over the world have changed their profile pictures into the French flag; In other words, they sympathized with the ‘targeted people’. And not only this, even the Syrian refugees were welcomed by the guest countries and they were given decent shelters, food, water, etc… Whether one may like it or not, the media reporting is, hugely, important since it provides its viewers with the latest fresh updates and it keeps their minds and hearts functioning for the good of all.
It is an actual fact that media is necessary in order to put the world’s stage in display. Yet, it is even more necessary to show the other side of the coin!
Actually, there are those who do not trust the media reporting because of its pure fallacy. They see that media, undoubtedly, serves a satanic agenda. Its role is not to reveal the truth. Not at all!! It is nothing but a mere magical trick to hypnotize the masses.
To speak the truth, not all of the magazines or newspapers have the same agenda. Unfortunately, nowadays one may hear a lot about pejorative terms such as; hate crimes, assault, sudden attacks on innocent people, censorship, etc… Undeniably, numerous crimes are taking place in every corner of the globe. How about the example of the Muslims who are being disgraced and despised by some people? Should a whole religion suffer because of the misdeeds of a handful of people? After the huge flow of the Syrian refugees into the western countries, media has pictured them as if it was “The Coming of the Barbarians”. And from that exact starting point, some people have bombarded their accounts on social networks with nothing but insults and curses, such as; “You are an unsought guest!”, “Get back to where you came from!”, or even by saying; “ Get back to your camels and Sahara!”.. And of course, the rest will follow…
Media is only present just to feed the dark side of every human. It is there to nurture the egocentrism and to label the people by accentuating on their differences. Media does only matter for the powerful ones; it “criminalizes” the innocents and “victimizes” those who have their hands stained with blood.
Since the 9/11, the world has never been the same. The media reporting has put a lot of people under the scoop, as if they were some sort of pets that are needed for scientific studies… Actually, media is the puppet of the masters of the world, it is processed by greed, power, money, and, especially, selfishness.
Personally, I should not be biased concerning this crucial matter of media and the way it reports on the subject of terrorism. As a matter of fact, media is both good and evil. Its true essence cannot be grasped until one is self-aware of its benefits and its side effects. According to what I have mentioned earlier, one may conclude that regarding all of its pros and cons, it is impossible to be completely objective. Aren’t we all humans, after all!!?
Media is a powerful weapon, and in order to wield it, one should ask him/herself a major question; why do we need media in the first place? How can we be objective (even if it is hard to not be subjective)? And do we need media for the welfare of the public?
In a nutshell, the world is not static and so many changes that may occur in just a blink of an eye, whether it is in a good or a bad way. Terrorism, undeniably, is a hot issue that needs to be tackled with care and deep seriousness, since everyone is concerned; Innocents or criminals. How to treat it? It surely requires people who have a capable mind of understanding the happenings in order to make the world a better place, or so we hope!!
