MUN conferences: 300-1500 participants. And all young people who are good at something. Admittedly not an easy pool to stand out in. But if you're determined to make your mark, take a deep breath and continue reading this article in addition to this great, free eBook on how to start a Model UN conference
1. The pink leopard's in the room, but can he roar?
Wearing a pink leopard print outfit will surely do the trick, but probably not the one you aimed for. Standing out on a MUN is not the same as standing out in a night club. These people won't be impressed by your outsides, but by finding the hidden treasure they all came to seek. And this is knowledge and opinions. MUN are a learning experience, and if you have what to pass on, you will be noticed. So stack up your shelf with books, polish your reading glasses and get crackin’! Make sure you can roar before thinking you're a leopard.
2. People pleasing: the everlasting trap
If it were the fifties when the society rested on strict conformism, there'd be no better quality. Today? I'm not so sure. Let's call a spade a spade. Serving others is noble. But people pleasing at the expense of your own needs is self-sabotage. We all want to feel safe and fit in, be liked and appreciated by our co-delegates. But you don’t have to be late to the session just because your co-delegate is, or not share a thought just because you’d be the first to speak in the room.
3. Playing the game isn't lame!

If you want to play football, it isn't because you want to sit on a bench. If you go to a MUN, it shouldn't be so you can be invisible. You're participating in a conference. Keyword: participating. Maybe you're afraid of being a know it all or not knowing enough. But what ever the reason is, sharing knowledge or asking questions to get it, the key word is: participating.
4. More isn't always better

Are you a multitasker? And you deeply want to impress and astonish? And this is why you have more versions of your position paper than can be counted on one hand? I think it's time for a deep breath! If you want to own a topic, don't lose the threads. If you're overdoing it, this might happen. Looking hectic will make you stand out, but not in a good way.
5. It’s not all about being perfect, it’s all about You!
You should play by the rules, and you should be praised for your impeccable participation and contribution, but it’s just as important to show your personality too. It might not be easy to be the ice-breaker in the crowd, but if you let people in, it can be very rewarding. If people feel that they can relate to you, not only did you make friends, but you can be sure no one will forget your name.
