I started MUN-s this March, with GIMUN 2014 and apart from my personal relation with this conference (because it was my first one) I have to say that it will be one of the best conferences that'll you ever attend.
To clarify something since the very beginning: I'm not part of the GIMUN team, therefore this post is totally based on my personal experience.
However I'll be chairing the Legal Committee in GIMUN 2015 and you're all invited to join. ;)
Below I'll list 5 reasons why you should all apply to Geneva International Model United Nations:
1. Palais de Nations.
The conference is held inside the UN headquarters in Geneva and as far as I'm informed it is the only conference that offers this opportunity. And I'm not talking just for the opening or closing ceremony, because all the sessions during all the week are held inside the UN.
During the week you have the opportunity to meet real UN officials and since you spend almost the whole day inside, you feel like you're really working for the UN.
P.S You'll loose your way many times inside that enormous Palace while trying to find the right room. ;)
All the committees work in two languages: English and French. Each committee has its team of translators/interpreters that will assist the committee during its work.
Chances are that in special days you might have the opportunity to speak in other languages as well if the translators/interpreters will be available in that language. ;)
The team of GIMUN is very professional! Considering the fact that GIMUN is a United Nations recognized NGO, maintaining a high reputation for the NGO is a crucial part of their activity (namely the annual conference).
Socials are a crucial part of the memories of the delegates and of course they should be designed in the proper way to allow them enjoy the conference.
In GIMUN 2014 there was an excursion to Lausanne, one of the most beautiful cities of Switzerland and we visited Gruyere a picturesque village nearby. At the end we visited the chocolate factory of Cailler (one of the best chocolates).
P.S You could try as much chocolates as you wanted for free. ;)
5. Financial aid.
GIMUN offers limited scholarships for students who can't afford all the costs of attending the conference. However, you should apply to external sources first before asking for support from GIMUN.
