The popularity of Model United Nations conferences has increased in the recent years, due to the extinction of worldwide issues, accompanied by a surprising interest coming from young people.
Romania took a „giant leap” in this direction, and holds a variety of MUNs at the moment, mostly organised by and dedicated to high school students, such as IasiMUN, BacauMUN, NapoMUN.
The geographical region of Moldavia was already hosting four such conferences when MoldaviaMUN was in the process of being created. Our intention was to promote this type of events on a larger, international scale and, as a background target, to increase the popularity of our hometown, Bacau.
It was a snowy December afternoon when the four founding members met for an „academic tea” at a local cafe to enlarge on the already sketched ideas. Ariadna Lungulescu, Călina Bichescu, Andrei Laslău and Vlad Covaci, 11th grade students, joined forces and elaborated their plan: They established concrete attributes for each, brainstormed on which committees to choose, set a proper, convenient period for the session and other such basic details.
They seemed to have moved rapidly; Each of them gathered a number of willing members, and, until New Year’s Eve, the final formula and logistic details of the conference were set and ready to meet a new level.
Just right away, the main team was divided into two departments, Admin and Advertising, guided by Andrei Laslău and Călina Bichescu.
Following the direction of success
As being mostly fresh in the area, the members of the team met slight difficulties in getting their ideas across or accomplishing certain tasks. But these obstacles were eventually overcome and led to the harmony which exists among the organisers and is to be described in the upcoming article.
