Do not stop, but do not accelerate either. Pausing is about recharging ones batteries in order to be able to move forward again. We do not want to stop the process. However, we want to pause it. Pausing is thinking. It means taking time to think about what has happened in the past, and to what extent it will affect tomorrow, the near future and the distant future, the generations to come. Taking time to think enables us to take different aspects into account and to make reasonable decisions. In international politics it is a unique challenge to make wise decisions despite the actors’ differences. Therefore, it is not unusual, that making decisions is about playing for time and space. Thus, time is a significant factor actors need to be aware of. Sometimes time feels like an unpredictable thing even though it surrounds us and there is nothing we can do about it. For instance you sit in the tram and you are already late for an important appointment you should not miss and you’ll find yourself checking your watch every minute and thinking about how the time runs. However, the person next to you is awaiting the arrival of a friend, checking the watch every minute and feels as the time would not pass at all. Time affects everyone differently. Facing global issues, which need to be solved, we all experience the time it takes to make decisions in different ways.
