In addition, he was a a dedicated human rights, social justice and animal rights activist. He fought against the system, and stood by the little man. Prince held numerous charity concerts, donated huge amounts of money, and through his protest songs, showed us what musical activism truly presents.
1. Political Activism
In 1981, during Ronald Reagan’s presidential term, he released a song called Ronnie, Talk to Russia, calling for diplomacy and peace between the two countries. In 2010, his song Ol’ Skool Company addressed the wide partition between the rich and the poor America. Just last year, Prince addressed police brutality by releasing the controversial song Baltimore to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement, when Freddie Gray died of a broken neck while being held in police custody.
Prince was an icon. He has made his mark on this world with his music, style, but also all the ways he fought for and helped shape the society we live in today for the better. That is why he will never be forgotten.
