A couple of days ago, I wanted to try out Instagram’s newest feature, polls so I asked on my Instagram story whether anyone had dressed up as a MUNer to celebrate Halloween. Silly to ask maybe, but I tend to use MUN as my guinea pig for many occasions and my account is all about MUN as well so it seemed possible. Normally, I would expect only negative votes, which is why I was really surprised to find out that people had actually dressed up as MUNers for Halloween. Allow me to clarify once again that I am not talking MUN inspired costumes; I am talking “MUNer” as the costume. Below, you will find a list of all the real-life based
costumes and if you use them to celebrate Halloween, do not hesitate to send a picture!
A)[possible only if you have access to a placard making machine]: you print out enough placards to cover sleeves and trousers where you have several names of countries or other International Institutions printed out. Accompany them with a long tie and you are ready to go! Do not forget to use witty mun pick up lines otherwise people may think of you as just extremely weird.
B)Crisis director: You will need a lot of mini alcohol bottles, loads of notes coming out of your pockets, a worn out costume and slightly dirty collar. You will have to answer everything with lines such as “I need a directive for that” and “my backroom is not ready yet” but deliver them in a very James Bond style mingled with historical trivia. It is necessary to have a mini bottle of Tabasco as well and when asked about it you simply go “ to spice things up” after all; you are a crisis aficionado.
C)Retired MUNer: Think of a mummy but when wrapping yourself up; make sure some MUN memorabilia are underneath your bandages like gavels, conference pens, pins etc. Creep people out in the most fashionable way ever and don’t forget to offer them something of yourself, which would be a part of your costume. Could work better as a marketing stand, in my opinion where the mummy shares leaflets or invitations for a society meeting.
D)Simulation princess: Classic princes' costume but with a quite clear name lane “princess of MUN”. Obvious and strikes up a lot of discussions especially when people have absolutely no idea what MUN is about.
E)MUN superhero: Any regular superhero attire would do. Just keep on saying how you saved UN and why your gavel is your most powerful weapon!
F)Vampire of knowledge: Classic vampire attire but with lines like “I want to drink the very last dollar of your funding” or “would you like to put the last nail in the other bloc’s coffin” etc.
G)Addicted MUNer: Just a gavel and no money for a second drink. The rest is up to personal interpretation.
It is more than evident that MUN is all about marketing and proper to our interests’ perception, therefore, do not try any of these if you are not willing to really have fun with people guessing what you have dressed up and you are not that comfortable with your MUN skin outside a conference. After all, it’s all about the booze!
