Press Committees are often seen as unimportant or unnecessary for Model UN conferences. However the press often proves to be pivotal for the success and professionalism of a conference and a powerful method to organize the rest of the committees during the event, especially in conferences organizing crises simulations.
Press Committees can be used for the following purposes:
Useful to update the delegates on what is happening at every committee;
Release videos that relate to the topics being discussed;
Release conference information (e.g. social events, committee room and etc.)
Promotional videos for the conference.
There are usually three types of Press Committees:
Committees that release information regarding the conference and what is happening in the rest of the conference (either being through a website or news fliers)
A committee that has reporters (delegates or part of the organizing team) from news agencies (e.g. BBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, Die Welt, China Daily, etc) who releases news reporting on what is happening in the committees, including criticisms and/or support (in addition to their bias and unbias positions ... Fox "News"). Freedom of the press here is optional since some news agencies are state controlled.
Committees that release videos promoting the conferences and reporting the news for the whole conference. For examples, check the videos WebMUN created here.
Point 2 and 3 are very effective for crisis committees and makes the conferences more professional and rememberable for all delegates
