1. When and where will the Sarajevo Model United Nations (Sarajevo Model UN) happen?
The conference will be held from September 21-24, 2017 at Hotel Holiday. It is one of the most prominent Sarajevo landmarks, that itself has a very international history, as it hosted the foreign press and dignitaries visiting Sarajevo during the 90s siege.
2. How much is the fee for the conference?
For as little as 130 EUR we’ve been able to provide participants with 3 night stay at the aforementioned, 4* Hotel Holiday, and that includes full boarding, all social, simulation, and round table events. We think this is also a wonderful opportunity for anyone wishing to visit Sarajevo, as they would normally pay up to 5 times as much for the competitively priced product we offer. More information regarding the participation fee is available on our website. And as always, our friendly staff is always there to help, guide or instruct completely free of charge both at the conference main events and elsewhere during our guests stay.
3. How many participants will there be at Sarajevo Model UN?
We are expecting between 100-150 participants, but of course we would be happy to see much more. We have big dreams for our future.
4. How long will the conference last?
The Conference will last 4 days in-and-out. which is almost as twice long as the one we organized last year.
5. Is accommodation included in the fee?
Yes, it is. We always saw Sarajevo Model UN as a place of certain expectations, but we also wanted to make it affordable and competitive. This year, by popular demand, we moved the venue to the city center, but thanks to some sorcery of our Organizing Board, we’ve managed to get one of the best Sarajevo hotels at an unbeatable rate.
So we have managed to move the venue to city center and still host our guests in a venue that is up to our high expectations. It’s a win-win, and I think our participants will really appreciate it.
For local participants not requiring accommodation, breakfast and dinner meals, the fee is 80 BAM.
6. To what airport should I fly to when coming to Sarajevo Model UN?
The closest airport is the compact Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ). The airport hosts regular services to several other European capitals and focus cities and the Middle East, operated both by legacy and low cost carriers.
The alternative low-cost options include Tuzla airport (TZL) which is 3 hours away by bus, or Zagreb/Belgrade, both at 6 hours ride by bus distance, but with considerably more air connections.
7. What does the agenda look like? *
*Please note this is only provisional schedule and is subject to change.
8. What are three MUST SEE places in Sarajevo?
That really depends on what are your interests. One could opt for history and culture, which Sarajevo is packed with - Baščaršija (Sebilj and the Town Hall building), the houses of prayer of all three major monotheistic religions are all in a walking distance here. And of course there is the Tunnel of Hope Museum, a relic from our recent past but the only link to the outside free world during the 4 year Sarajevo siege.
For more artistically inclined - there is the Ars Aevi museum which holds the most notable selection of contemporary works in this part of the world (Pistolleto, Kounelis, Kapour to name a few)
And then there’s a lot of old abandoned relics of the Olympic Games in the mountains close by and some are even becoming world famous as street art venues.
But… these are all places and things. What I personally never miss on my Sarajevo visit is a good portion of ćevapi, and a locally crafted beer with friends in one of the hip bars downtown. For more information visit our partner at: Visit Sarajevo |
9. What is the application deadline for the conference?
The application deadline for the Regular Admission cycle is August 13, 2017.
But… If someone would like to join us last minute - I’m sure our working bees could be persuaded to accommodate that request too.
10. How do I learn more about the conference?
