My name is Rim, I am responsible for the MUN organization in our school. I am part of an association called SimONU which organizes and participates to MUN all around the world (we went to London, to New York, and Washington). This year we’re hosting the first MUN open to international students in our beautiful campus located in Bordeaux, South West of France.
We’ve been working for months in order to organize the best conference possible. We have planned many things to do outside as well. Also, this could be an amazing opportunity to discover the beautiful city of Bordeaux, ranked best city to live in in France.
MUNPlanet: Children's rights isn't a common topic you would find at MUNs. What influenced the secretariat to select this as a main themes? Any recent events?
Everyone in our association feels deeply concerned about children’s rights. Despite everything that is happening at the moment, all around the world, we sometimes forget that children suffer a lot more from all the conflicts happening. This is our chance to think about that fact and focus on their rights.
MUNPlanet: Tell us more about the team behind this year’s edition of KMUN. How many people does it take to organize a quality Model UN conference?
We are a team of 12 people, all with specific tasks to realize in order to bring up the KMUN. We also rely on our school’s help with the organization. Here is a photo of us (there are two girls missing on the picture !)
Delegates should write down their opening speech that they’ll read first, giving their country’s position towards the subjects. Additional researches are very efficient and would certainly help to get the discussions move forward.
MUNPlanet: What’s the biggest advantage of attending MUN conferences in general, in your opinion?
MUN Conference are the best way to express ourselves as if we had a say in the matter. It is very constructive and helps us develop our negotiations skills, as well as learn how to speak in front of many people, stand up for our ideas. Also it teaches us a lot of things about the international community. It is a true experience that one will remember forever.
MUNPlanet: How would you describe KMUN’s best delegate?
The best delegate is someone that never gives up on his ideas, that knows how to convince other delegates even though he’s wrong, someone with a true ability to speak in public. He/she is the person that we most notice and that appears like a leader to everyone.
We won’t say much for the moment, we want to leave it a surprise ;) But we obviously plan to give our participants the best of Bordeaux, such as wine tasting, visiting the city, maybe even a trip to the amazing “Dune du Pyla” (One of Europe’s best views !) if the weather allows it. There is also more to come !
MUNPlanet: How do you see new technologies, especially communities such as MUNPlanet, changing Model United Nations landscape in the coming years?
Today it has become very easy to get the MUN Communities to know each other, with a tool such as the Internet. It is that simple to inform ourselves about any event we might be interested in, visiting websites like MUN Planet allows us to keep in touch with the communities we belong or are interested in. Each country has its own way of organizing these conferences and gives the opportunity to meet their people, which is amazing.
MUNPlanet: What would be one impression that you would like your participants to leave the conference with?
Our goal is to have everyone satisfied with the conference we prepared, happy because they met nice people they can keep in touch with, spending a great time in our school and leaving Bordeaux with a real wish to come back.
Rim, thank you for devoting your time to MUN Spotlight and telling us more about you and your conference. MUNPlanet is looking forward to your event and strongly advises all MUNers to check it out. Good luck and we wish you all the best!
