It is time to introduce our second DISEC Chair, Mareike Moraal. While born in the US, she has lived in the Netherlands and Germany most of her life. Currently, she is studying governance at the University of Freiburg, Germany. She is also pursuing a BA in foreign policy-making at the University College in Maastricht, the Netherlands. While she has been active in MEUs during her high school days, she only discovered the joys of participating in MUNs at university, where she became part of the 13th United Netherlands Delegation. With this delegation, Mareike attended many MUN conferences, ranging from small simulations at Dutch Universities to the Harvard National MUN in Boston.
In times when there somehow are no conferences to attend, she likes to pass her time organizing debates for the international student organization The Innbetween, playing the clarinet in the Student Orchestra, cycling (which, as a Dutch citizen, seems to be inevitable), and pursuing her passion for public speaking in a rather different setting, namely through acting in theatre productions.
Having experienced and thoroughly enjoyed the delegate’s side of MUN, Mareike now seeks to pass on her enthusiasm to other students through chairing selection and training simulations for United Netherlands, as well as chairing conferences, such as the Southern European International MUN. She is very much looking forward to meeting you all this September!
