Hello Dear MUNers!
I’m really glad to be here with you in this Project - MUNPlantet City Mavericks - , it’s such an honour! I hope we all can have a good time! In order to show you how important are the entrepreneurship projects, international relations, etc., me and my mates are going to talk about it. So, let’s start it!
First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Valéria Emília de Aquino, I’m brazilian, I’m 20 years old and I am a Law student. I love the MUN World, and I started it in 2010, when I was 16. I speak French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and German, and I love being in touch with people from other countries, because I like learning about cultural differences.
I think when we learn something new, or when we share our experiences and knowledge, we are investing and supporting education, and only through education we can change this world and make it better.
Currently, I’m engaged in some projects in the city where I live – Uberlândia, Brazil -, so I want to share some local projects.
ESAJUP – ESCRITÓRIO DE ASSESSORIA JURÍDICA POPULAR DA UFU
-What is it? It’s a project from my college, that aims helping and providing people legal aid, without charging anything. Poor people come after us, in order to achive their rights and to achieve justice.
-When it happens? Everyday, except Sundays, some Saturdays and holydays, we are listening our clientes, giving legal advices and legal support. We open 8 a.m, and we close 7 p.m.
-Why is it important? Come on, we all know that everybody will need a lawyer someday, somehow, so our goal is to give all the support needed to our clients. If they are trying to get an agreement, or if they want to prosecute someone, we just do our job, to help our community to achieve order and justice.
PROJETO SIMUNA - SIMUNA PROJECT
-What is it? It is a MUN Project, developed by students and to students in a local school, called Colégio Nacional. I’m very proud to be a part of it, because it is the biggest MUN in my city. Some years ago, it was the only MUN that we’ve had in the city, but it is still the most important. It started in 2008, and since 2010, I’m a part of it (as a delegate, secretariat, coordinator, etc.).
-When it happens? It happens once a year. This year it happened in April, last year on May, and next year maybe it will be on April or May.
-Why is it important? It is important because since it happens in a school, we try to develop in our students a political sense, and we want them to go along with this project, and they keep on the MUN World. We want to arouse in their minds a feeling of ‘I want to be a part of it, I want to do something good to the world’, we want them out of the common sense, we want them thinking about politics, environment, humanity, etc. And if I may share, because of this project, and because of my MUN experience, I was chosen to participate at a UN MUN Workshop in Tokyo, Japan, in November 2014.
-What is it? In portuguese it is called Grupo de Estudos de Direito Internacional da UFU, which means it is a Studies Group of International Law of UFU. So, as it says, it is a studies group of my college in this field. It’s a place to share knowledge about international law, UN, diplomatic field, international relations, international security, global summits, environment, etc.
-When it happens? It happens every two weeks, on Wednesdays, 5 p.m to 7 p.m.
-Why is it important? It’s always important to talk about this field, even more if we are connected with the MUN World. Currently I’m the monitor of this group, and I would like to tell you that we are open to discussion with people from other countries. We want to share our experience, but we want also listen what people can contribute with us, even by letting us a message, or saying something (even a ‘Hello’) in our posts. It’s a space to share some important readings (such as Kissinger, Machiavelli, Adam Smith, etc.), and to share opinions, of course! You are all welcome!
CARGILL GLOBAL SCHOLARS
-What is it? It is a project of Cargill Inc. with IIE (Institute of International Education). I think it is na amazing initiative of this company, because it provides students of USA, Brazil, India, Russia and China a seminar of leadership, mentoring program, and it also supports education by giving students a scholarship of U$2500 per year, so, for me, it’s such an interesting project, which can bring a lot of good professional experience, and can turn students into global leaders.
-When it happens? It happens once a year, and it starts with a process of application. Once you are chosen, and you are in, you are a Cargill Global Scholar, and you have to participate of all its activities through the year.
-Why is it important? As I said, it’s very important to share experience, and to develop our skills as leaders. I may say that it is also important because it provides a good network, and it makes us reflect about our lives and behaviour, by telling us about self-knowledge.
That’s all for today! I hope you’ve enjoyned, and you can be a part of a better world, because it all starts with us! Keep on reading my posts, please ;)
