Hola fellow UN lovers, this is Alejandra García and this is my very first post on MUN Planet. For this one I thought it would be cool to give you some hunts on visiting my city for the first time.
As you read, yes… there are 3 Méxicos inside México so it could get a little confusing when choosing your flights, booking hotel rooms and so go on.
México (Country) is divided in 31 states and one federal district, one of those states is called the Estado de México (State of México) and the district is called Distrito Federal, known as México City (Capital of the Country).
It gets crazy when… Mexicans not born in El D.F. (Distrito Federal), call El D.F. as México. Ex. “Im going to México” instead of “Im going to El D.F.”).
But… it gets more ‘loco’ after some weeks ago, the government of El D.F. decided to rename the D.F. as México City (CDMX). So now we the “chilangos” people from México City- el D.F., are not anymore from the one and only district, we are now from a state called as a Ciudad de México. That turns México in a country with 32 states by now. *This happened in early 2016*
Another important point you should know is that… drum roll… México is not the official name of México. The official one is Estados Unidos Mexicanos but some Mexicans would call it República Mexicana.
When coming to México City, you would have to arrive at airport Benito Juárez, either Terminal 1 or 2. You could stay in the Center of the City, known as ‘Centro Histórico’ (1st pic) or in ‘Reforma’ avenue (2nd pic) as the most important museums, old fashioned buildings and historical-typical spots are located in that area.
