With roughly 55 m students, 3m teachers and more than 236,000 schools in 500 districts Indonesia has the world fourth's largest education system. But the new country's president, Joko Widodo now changed the education system of Indonesia.
The educational system in Indonesia is pretty tight and pretty hard but there’s also a time for play while learning. Children finish their playgroup for one year and they start to go to school when they are 3 years old. Then, they go to kindergarten for 2 years, and they finish their kindergarten when they are six years old.
They get into elementary school when they are six, and for six years they be educated in elementary school from the first grade until the sixth grade, then they will face with National Exams from the state and it’s a must for student to follow it, if the children want to graduate and also a final exams from school. And after they graduate, they’re going to Junior High School for three years, and they face the national exams from the state and final exams from school.
After they finish their Junior High School, they goes to Senior High School and finish their high school. And in High School they can choose majors to learn, these majors determine what subjects they’re going to take in University. There are Science, Social and Languages. And what majors can they take in High School is chosen based by the student’s ambition, the score of lessons in school and also the result of aptitude test. They usually consult this kind of things with the teacher who teaches in consulting guidance.
Then after finish high school, they go to university, this is the most stressing time for the high school student in Indonesia, because most of them want to go to the university and get a bachelor degree. To go to the State University, they have to get through some test and they will choose 3 top universities that they want to get into, then for the students who want to get into a private university, they get through some tests also.
Some people always says that the educational system in Indonesia is pretty tough and also hard for the students, and some people disagree. It takes the time for students in Indonesia for rest and play with each other, and it's pretty stressful to learn in here because students have to get a high score for their report card until the social judgement from others because some people still see the brain ability through scores in school not the ability to be creative and adapt to the real world. But, some school now in Indonesia pushes their students to be creative and easily adapt to another environment. And now the government program to learning through the Internet has been available for students around Indonesia, it's easier now for the students in Indonesia to learn, but the standard of the graduation still the same.
