Most tourists come to Croatia during the summer when they want to visit towns along the coast such as Zadar, Dubrovnik, Split and Šibenik.
The educational system in the Republic of Croatia consists of:
Official definition of each stage gave the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia.
According to that, preschool education is the education of care of the children of preschool age which is realized through many factors such as education, health care and social care. Preschools include kindergartens and institutions in implementing the preschool programs.
Children from the age of six must enroll in the elementary school. Elementary education in Croatia is compulsory and free for everyone. It last eights years.
After that, children can continue ther education in an optional secondary schools which we call secondary education. In that stage children can choose between gymnasium, vocational or trade schools (techincal, industrial) and art schools (music, dance, art).
Gymnasium last four year and end with the final exam called "State matura" (on Croatian: Državna matura").
That exam is compulsory exam for thoose who will go to college and everyone who went in gymnasium.
Furthermore, gymnasium is the choice if you want to continue your education. Vocational schools are preparing children for entering the labour market. Arts schools are for the children who wants to have some different knowledge such as creativity, music and some other artistic fields.
Attending secondary public schools is also free.
Finally, higher education is conducted at institutions of higher education through university and professional studies. All study programs are aligned with the requirements of the Bologna process.
University study consists of three levels:
According to Ministry, university study qualifies students for performing jobs in science and higher education, business community, public sector and society in general.
Also, in Croatia there is adult education which is based on many principles and the main one is "lifelong learning".
The first university established in Croatia was the University of Zadar (Universitas Studiorum Jadertina).
