In my previous articles I presented to you a short story and description about UoA and how Greek students spend their free time. So, it’s time to describe my experience to UoA!
Being a University student has been a childhood dream for me that came true when I graduated from High school. The problem was that I didn’t know exactly what to study. Therefore, when I had to decide which University I would attend, I had a really hard time. After rejecting a lot of different choices, I came up with Psychology because more and more people are interested in it so I decided to try it even though I had no idea about Psychology.
The first day at University I had no expectations at all and I didn’t felt nervous. My sister had already been a university student so I was prepared of what I have to expect. I was only worrying about being on time and finding the right classroom. It’s funny. The most of the students get really disappointed when they realize how the university is. The Greek University is far from what we see in movies. The buildings are not so fascinating …
For me, it was easy to meet new people and make new friends, as the most of the students do. From the first day I met some other students whom I'm still friends with. The most important was that the people that I've met have a lot of things in common with. And that make school and university experience totally different. In university you can meet people with the same concerns and hobbies. What is more you can talk about your studies and learn more about your science. At least, this is what happened in my case. With all these friends I spent my time in and out of UoA as I described you to the previous articles.
The lessons captured my attention and interest from the first moment. Although not all of them are exciting I fancy attending them and listen to my professors. It is true that during the first year of the studies we attend lessons of general Psychology and they have nothing to do of what you except of a Psychology lesson. However, after the first year the lessons start become more and more interesting and you have also the opportunity to choose what lessons you want to attend. Besides, our presence on lessons is not obligatory. However, I prefer not to miss them although I have to make a 1.5 h trip to get at the University and 1.5 h trip back home.
The financial crisis that occurs in Greece makes the money available for the University less and less. Nevertheless, many conferences, congresses and cultural events occur every year. Therefore, I have already attended some of them. Furthermore, there a lot of students programs apart from University’s ones, like Erasmus+ that give to the students the opportunity to travel and volunteer abroad or in their country. Not to mention that I have already have experienced them. Student life is full of opportunities!! And I try not to miss any of them!
Although, it is important to follow your dreams sometimes trying things that you never believed that you could do it might lead you to new life paths more interesting than you thought!!!
