As soon as I got the chance, I applied for the National High School Model United Nations which would take place in New York City in March... When I learned that I had been admitted to this prestigious program I felt so honored and lucky!
I represented Gabon in the SPECPOL Committee that dealt with the issues tied with countries which became independent only recently. The issue we tackled was the dramatic condition of South Sudanese refugee camps. I felt really empowered by this experience because it was something I had never done before and raised my awareness about humanitarian issues and lesser known third-world countries.
Another important asset of the NHSMUN is that it allowed me to work with delegates coming from all over the world and improved my interpersonal skills.
As in every MUN, one of the funniest parts was the "delegate dance" where I partied all night long with my fellow delegates. One of the perks of International MUNs is that you have the chance to meet people coming from all over the world and make new friends.
On the last day, we went to the General Assembly and held the closing ceremony in such a fascinating and politically-relevant place... I really felt empowered.
I highly recommend such an amazing experience!
