Or rather - see you soon! See you soon, wonderful team of MUNPlanet and see you soon, Belgrade or as I like to call it #Belgreat. After an exciting internship and many projects that I was able to work on in this dedicated team - only few things are left to say:
Thank you for the opportunity.
Thank you for the trust you put in me.
And thank you for a wonderful internship at the MUNPlanet HQ.
Though I love to write, these kind of messages are rather difficult and I guess, this blog is a good summary of my work here - so read on what has happened in only three weeks here, check out the many articles and especially, follow the new topic on MUN Media - a dear project of mine and let's just say:
"See you soon in MUN world - either online or at the next conference!"
*14 It is the final countdown...
While I do not really feel like I was here for way longer than only three weeks - long days at the office followed by exciting nights made sure it seems like months. And of course, exciting tasks and the inspiring environment in the office do their best to reinforce this feeling. And while my internship here is coming to an end, the baby, MUN Media is growing and growing, thanks to contributors, testimonials and support from many former MUN colleagues who worked with me in several Press Committees. See what some of them have to say in Being a MUN Journalist - MUN:Planet Testimonials about their experiences. There is so much new content and to top things off, tomorrow I will hold a short Webinar right here on MUN:Planet to tell you more about MUN Career - how MUN and MUNPlanet helped me grow'.You can even send your questions for me to talk about viaTwitter using #MUNPlanet and direct it to MUNPlanet (@MUNPlanet) | Twitter!
I am looking forward to hearing from you and see you tomorrow for theMUNPlanet Webinar
*13 Get incited
Last night the entire MUN:Planet team went to support our dear CEO at the Impact Hub Belgrade for her speech on "The power of networking". Sounds boring? It was so not boring. The Impact Hub is a creative and inspiring place where young people do what they love and become great entrepreneurs - all by the power of networking. And being a misfit, as one of the speakers put it.
We are misfits because we are more engaged than the average. We are misfits because we take risks and get out of our comfort zone. We are misfits because we do not follow, but we get creative and do the things we are passionate about. And that reminded me of what I always call myself - the weirdo who is continuing to do MUN. As I wrote elsewhere Quitting MUN - taking the step to step out is high up on my personal agenda, because it is simply about time, but what kept me going back to MUN for four years and end up at the MUNPlanet office is exactly that - being a misfit, but finding other misfits to hang with. Or better to say: I learned so much from being a MUNer, it shaped my personality and my professional skills and all that because I was interested to do something new and unknown and excited to learn more.
Incited - yes please. Despite the fact that this passion is pretty hard to follow and had me ending up with friends spread all over the continent and Facebook Messenger and Skype being my best friends - this is so worth it. And the speeches at the event reinforced this feeling even further. I am going to MUN because I am meeting inspired people who are willing to do more than the average student does. Who are sacrificing time and money to do what they are passionate about. So why would you not want to do MUN?
And the top of the cherry areThe Skills that You will Learn at an MUN that will boost Your Career. For me this is and was absolutely true so far. And well, check out Home - Impact Hub and get incited!
*12 MUN MEDIA - it is alive and kicking
Such an exciting day. One of the projects that have been close to my heart for more than four years has found its way to MUNplanet as well today. The entire topic on MUN Media kept me busy today and check out the newest posts and questions here!! I started out with reaching out to my many former colleagues in MUN Media and engaging them in the project - so expect more to be coming up on the platform, soon! And of course, testimonials on why also YOU should join the media team next time you are going to an MUN!
I started out my MUN career as a journalist and it was the BEST. I hope more first-timers will experience the same and enjoy it as much as I did. And you an be sure: MUNPlanet will help you with all your questions right here! So check out MUN Media - An Introduction to get an idea of the concept and then decide Why you should become an MUN journalist with my last post of the day! Off to good start, now, help me and join the debate in the topic, answer some questions and share your experiences! I am looking forward to them!
Wow. Just wow. After a wonderful and long weekend today the last week has already begun. After a short Monday blues we all felt at 8 am this morning, quickly we started out with the fantastic activities that happened here over the course of the weekend. So many of you are active and sharing their questions and answers. After celebration for UN70 and our special topic from last week, this week the time is going to rush by with the work on the MUN Careers topic and for sure, the MUN Media topic on which I will work extensively during the coming week. You want to join in? Maybe you also did journalism at an MUN? Or you have a question about it? Feel free to share! MUN Media is the underdog in MUN, but should not stay this way. There is much to explore and thus, be sure to follow the topic to stay up-to-date with all that's happening here!
Oh and best for your week from the entire MUN:Planet Team here at the Belgrade office - with Dusanka Ilic taking the picture ;)
Almost at least. With the last office day of the week, we have been all over preparing the topic on UN 70 further. Not only dealing with substantial research work today to make the articles the best, but also talking to many members about their plans and making sure that everyone knows - it is the UNs birthday.
Personally, I continued on the topic focus of the UN and its youth asking myself the question:
I am still wondering, whether it is best to have the UN coordinate the efforts made all over the world and keep track, or, whether it makes more sense to centralize this in a separate program, much like UN Women. What is your guess?
The day went by with this and with the whole office being so busy, there is not much more to tell than that not only was the office heated up by Vlado keeping track of the AC on at least 26°C but all of our brains working at high speed!
It might not be summer anymore. And we might be freezing on our way to lunch. But it is an exciting time to work at the MUNPlanet Office with the UN's 70th Anniversary this Saturday. We have been very busy planning some articles for you and actually YOU can be part of the party too via sharing with what is means to be My United Nations - What is your UN Moment?
Also we are busy reviewing the history of the UN and what the UN does for all of you in articles such as The UN and its Youth - Partners in Changing the World - did you know there is plenty of ways how you can engage with the UN? Even beyond MUN? Check it out.
It is already late but today was such a busy day - and more is up tomorrow as a lot of deadlines are approaching. Check out our birthday topic in UN 70 and make sure, you also find some answers to the question! I am excited to hear from you!
What have I done today? Prioritize. So many tasks popped up during the day and time kept running away from me. Back to the Future day - I wish. With the birthday of the UN looming on the horizon and me getting to know all kinds of jobs that MUNPlanet is doing, my tasks and of course, interesting assignments like the article on Labor Market Myths Revisited: Europe kept me super-busy. A big task was finding out how MUNPlanet puts together all these offers on exciting conferences - around the globe! Milan Nikolic - my colleague sitting opposite from me in the office - is your guy when it comes to conferences. Not only does he know whats happening around the world, he is also updating the Model United Nations University Calendar and the High School version. And my task today was to find out what is next in 2016 in regard to youth conferences, leadership seminars and IR summer schools. Be excited, guys, so much is out there!
What better thing to do than getting a nice cup of tea with Marija Marković after?! We finished our day with a proposal "Tomorrow, we have to be even more productive" and relaxed over a cup of fresh tea in the cutest place. With cats. And couches. And books. A small heaven, especially after a busy day in the office.
Today, Marija Marković and I faced an empty chair crisis at the office. Our large desk, usually populated with another four MUN:Planet workers was left empty - even Vlado Damjanovic was struck down by the flu. But nevertheless, we were highly productive, member engagement is going well and surely, you have already seen that there is more and more content on the website. Check it out! Today, we also started our discussions on the 70th anniversary of the UN - did you know the UN has its birthday on Saturday? Well, you can be sure - MUN:Planet is planning something special for the big day. Stay tuned on the platform and make sure you let us know what you will be doing on that special day - maybe even with your MUN Association? Get in touch and introduce your Association in post!
Off to a busy evening and later, more Belgrade Exploration with Nikola Veselinovic!
*6 Back for a new week at MUN:Planet
It is Monday. For many team members. But I am still all too excited for this whole internship and after an involuntary break last week because of my injury, I have stumbled back to the office, sitting in my comfortable chair and off to work. It started out with, of course, dealing with some of our regulars - attending to your questions and checking out the newest content on MUN:Planet. But mostly, MUN Career -the topic I am most busy with - kept me in the loop today.
Working on more issues that are interesting to members, reaching out to you all for suggestions that we should be dealing with and naturally, publishing my newest pieces here. A productive day today and as you can see, a lot of new things are now online. Are you actually aware of all the things you learn from attending MUN actively? Check it out my newest piece in MUN Careers via The Skills that You will Learn at an MUN that will boost Your Career / MunPlanet.
And as you know, MUN:Planet recently published its first E-book on organizing MUNs. I have put together some online tools that can add to your organizing efforts - and can not wait for your comments on the list I compiled here: Use those Apps - Organize your Team successfully / MunPlanet.
Not enough? Wait for it! It is only Monday and more is upcoming!
*4+5 A not so nice ending of the first week
You wonder why there has not been a post yesterday? Is there nothing up at the office? Well, I am sure there is, and lots of things are happening that I am very excited about, but unfortunately, I could not go to the office the last two days. Quite literally even. In an attempt to walk the streets like a local, looking at architecture and in the search for a nice restaurant I did not look for where I was walking two nights ago.
And then this happened: Twisted ankle. I stepped into a whole and found myself on the floor right after. But well, all is fine now, putting up my foot and waiting my time until it gets better...
So, as I just said, quite literally I am not able to go to the office. Of course, I was on the platform busy with your questions, but it's just not the same. And having a twisted ankle is also quite annoying. You get tired easily from jumping around on one foot and additionally, it's quite boring.
So not so much to tell, and as some of you know, I am not a complainer. I will stay optimistic, hope that this sudden break will help me to get all my energy up for a great week next week, on fire and up to normal (walking and working) speed for Week 2 at the MUN:Planet Internship! Stay tuned and use the weekend to browse all the new content we got up here during the week!
It seems to me that time is flying faster and faster. And this is only my third day. But tasks and new challenges are piling up and fill my day up nicely. Not only am I of course active on the platform, answering questions of members and raising my own, but also I am now actively involved in sharing my experiences and knowledge about how Model UN can help you in your post-MUN life: When you are trying to enter the job market. Why MUN Experience will matter more in the years to come is one of the pieces I put together today and hope to spark the debate here on MUNPlanet about our MUN after life. Mine is certainly not over yet, but MUN should be and for me, it also is more than fun, travels and new friends. Join the debate and follow the MUN Careers section for more to come!
Strategy was another big part of today - after an introduction of what the strategies in terms of content are yesterday, today was the day to deal with new strategies. I can not share much yet but make sure you stay tuned here and within the community for new things coming up in the next week(s). MUN:Planet is showing me, how you organize an online community strategically and especially, how that is done with a long-term perspective. Both the content number and quality is growing here and there is so much more to come! I am glad to be part of it and be sure, more on new developments and opportunities for our community will be shared shortly!
*2 - First working day in the office
What a day already. My first working day here at the Belgrade HQ is almost over and just like at MUNs, time flies. And just like MUNs, my body feels tired, but my mind is ready for more already. Today my day was filled with following up on recent content of MUN:Planet, help out members with their pressing questions and to say the least, get even more excited for the coming days. I am being supported perfectly by the team and after a project meeting this morning on yet another exciting MUN:Planet initiative by Dusanka Ilic, Marko Kovacevic and Vlado Damjanovic - I am sure that this inspiring environment is going to be just what I was looking for when applying months ago to this internship. Every job starts with getting acquainted with the procedures and regulars at the office - and that's what happened here today for me. Getting to know MUN:Planet and how I can be involved in its projects, procedures and daily tasks. Off I am for the day and back tomorrow morning.
On a different note, I started to decorate my desk a bit...
*1 - Time to get to know MUN:Planet. This time for real
It is finally time for the internship at MUN:Planet - or should I better call it the cherry on top of my MUN career?
After having been involved in MUN for more than four years, being unable to stop, and another year online on the best MUN community there is, some of the most dedicated MUNers I know pointed out something similar to the following:
'Freda, you know, you are all over MUN:planet, how come you do not apply for their internship?'
'Freda, you know, you are all over MUN:planet, how come you do not apply for their internship?'
As you can tell from this post, one of many more to come, I did apply. And I actually got it. And got in - into the door of the wonderful MUN:planet office, in the heart of Belgrade. So here we are, the MUN:planet community managers, whom I just met and me, a young German but not so young MUNer.
Maybe one can tell, maybe one can not so let me just spell it out for you here:I am more than thrilled to be part of the team as an intern - MUNs have shaped my life and career for the better, helped me grow up and develop skills I never thought I had. I am sure that the internship here at MUN:planet will be no different and it already has been a hell of ride to get here.
The MUN:planet challenge, a three week period every potential intern had to follow through with specific tasks such as engaging MUNers on the platform, gathering new members or sharing interesting job postings was a true challenge. But that was not all - you were also really getting into the works of the platform and experienced first hand, how much it means to both the team running it and its impact on its users. So call it a challenge, call it an experience or simply call it your MUN time without leaving home - it was and is my cherry on top of the MUN pie for sure.
In the past, a time before MUN:planet, you asked yourself : 'Which conference of the many ones out there should I choose?', 'How should I prepare for the conference' or 'What is expected of me as a delegate?'
You are not alone anymore when preparing for your conference - the community is there for help. You do not know where to go next, which conference to pick? Surely, MUN:planet will be showing you your next big adventure. And that is what I hope to do here, too. Show MUNers how a simple online community can and will help you - both personally and professionally.
Let's get this started. MUN:planet internship - I am ready! Are you?
