It is said that New Year's resolutions are bound to be broken. With the millions struggling every year to pick and keep up with their resolutions, we decided to lend as helping hand by sharing our list and a handful of useful guidance. This is why we have sought to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions using common sense, a slice of imagination, and most importantly using MUNPlanet.
In 2017, we reaffirm our commitment to spreading the culture of knowledge and extending possibilities for communication and actions aimed at achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. MUNPlanet team gathers around several New Year’s resolutions and we invite you to join us in efforts that can make the world a better place - centered on reading, thinking, writing, friendship, cooperation, and solidarity.
We will read more books in 2017, and we’re looking to discuss together some of the most important and enduring ideas in the world in the classical and modern contexts. Are you with us? Join us in crowdsourcing the reading list for 2017, and take part in our global community reading challenge.P.S. We will share in on a little secret - some of our team members have read 50 books this year, and it feels great.
Thinking is essential
Finding solutions for global problems requires creative and critical thinking skills that can help us navigate in the world that is becoming ever more complex. At MUNPlanet, our task every day is to think about the ways to put a more humane face on the world by perfecting the art of building online communities. We are inviting you to join us in the discussions about the key global topics, and focus on how literature matters in the ways of understanding the world.
Writing is beautiful
Writing is all about communicating thoughts and ideas in a readable and beautiful way - and such practice can grow as a result of reading and thinking. Are you ready for a year-long challenge that may bring about the possibilities of learning and cutting the “diamond” of talent that our inner thinking and writing selves hold? Pick several book from the list, and tell us how some of these ideas resonate with the humanity and our common world.
Friendships are meanings
For Henry David Thoreau, an American essayist, philosopher and naturalist, “the language of friendship is not words but meanings,” and in this sense, reading also opens up to culture of humanism and understanding. On that note, we invite all of you to rediscover the many meanings of friendship, the quality that makes our lives meaningful, and connect with as many people you can through MUNPlanet by sharing your knowledge, experiences and thoughts with the community.
Cooperation is the key
As with having the friends that are always there for you, working with other people in a joint action is the only way to transcend the limits of the individual and aspire for the common good. Join us in exploring the ways in which we can achieve some good things in 2017 together, and contribute toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. For example, this idea proposed by Swedish billionaire László Szombatfalvy about creating the “U.N. 2.0” and helping the world become a better place can be something to think about in 2017.
Solidarity as a new global good
People live on the same planet, but they often live in different and unequal worlds. Reasons for this are many, but one of the ways to decrease the effects of this is to show solidarity and empathy with those people who are in need. We can think and act together around the concepts of solidarity in a globalized world, and how this community can practice solidarity in such ways. Show us your initiatives aimed at bringing equality and prosperity to communities all around the world and partake in our MP:Initiatives program.By the time you start reading this, we may well be into the New Year, which means you’ll have a good idea whether or not you’re going to be able to stick to your resolutions this time around. We wish you well. Let’s do good things together.
