How does the role of new technologies and new communities such as MUNPlanet can affect the future of MUNs?
Nahomi & Carolina: We believe that the use of technology can definitely give MUNs a new perspective, since it can improve the quality of debate and simplify the job of MUNs organizers. For example, we have an app where delegates can see news from topics discussed in the Model and also see the distribution of committees in our buildings. Moreover, we truly believe that communities such as MUNPlanet do not only inspire MUNers to go to conferences or continue doing their own, buy they truly give the opportunity to MUNs to explore new ways of growing.
In our case, we are really appreciative of the fact that we might get the chance to possibly host people from other continents. THANK YOU, MUNPlanet!
Historic Downtown of Puebla is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tell us some interesting things we should know about it.
Nahomi & Carolina: Not because we live in Puebla, but it is truly one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. Puebla has the biggest Cathedral in Mexico and, as you mentioned it, Puebla’s Downtown is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Puebla preserves more than 2600 monuments and it comprises major religious buildings, such as Santo Domingo and the Rosary Chapel, whose walls are covered in gold. Also, the famous “Cinco de Mayo” took place in Puebla and visitors can go to the Forts where it all happened. Moreover, Puebla has the biggest observation wheel in Latin America, located in the modern city side (5 min from our University).
Is it true that everyone is driving Volkswagen cars in Puebla?
Meigan: It is funny that you mention it, but not everyone is driving Volkswagen cars. It is true that the Volkswagen factory plant in Puebla is a big engine for the economic and industrial sectors of the city because it employs around 15,000 people in the city. Car leases are available to almost everyone employed by this automotive giant and this is why you are able to spot a Volkswagen in almost every corner of the city. Nevertheless, there are many other important manufacturers in the outskirts of the city such as Grupo Bimbo who leads the market in its segment and also many other textile industry factories who have a big impact on the economy and the society. In 2016, Puebla will become the first city to host an Audi factory in Latin America. This last is making Puebla’s infrastructure become much more important countrywide and helping it attract much more attention than it already has.
