The weekend was off to a great start. We had been there less than an hour and already I had found a way back to my favorite committee! There was one minor issue, which was that we had to write entirely new position papers before the first committee session in an hour. As our friends ordered pizza, my friend and I settled in and pumped out new opening statements for the committee's four topics just in time. The first session was nothing too exciting, and in fact, my partner hoping to increase our school's chances at getting the top delegation award decided to switch back to DISEC, while I stayed in UNSC. I was now not only representing a country for topics I had no preparation for, I was also working alone. Over the course of the next three days I had my greatest MUN experience ever! Being in a smaller committee and working as a single delegate, when I had only worked with a dual delegate in the past, meant I was immediately forced to think on my feet and managing numerous things at once. I learned so much from that one conference and was rewarded at the end of the weekend by winning the Best Delegate award for my committee.
Model UN involves plenty of awesome experiences like the one I detailed above! If you want to become involved with Model United Nations, or continue to develop experience with MUN, please join me at TGIMUNC in New Delhi, India this Summer! I will be the Director for the Arab League committee, a position I am only comfortable holding because of the quick thinking and problem solving skills I developed at ODUMUNC and at other conferences! I'm sure it will be an incredible time! See you there!
