Final log in-December 2016.
Dear future self,
To put it simply, you are broke but you liked it very much.Your bank account no longer wants to support your participation in Model UN conferences and your liver seconds vividly this proposal. So, Oxbridge:It stands for the peak of the European Model UN season (and a pretty interesting point on an international level since many people flew overseas to participate in them) and it means that a person attends both Cambridge and Oxford International Model United Nations. Both of them are:
a)Leading MUNs in Europe and significant stand on an international level,
b)Most competitive to get in,
c)The place to be for any ambitious person.
d)trendsetters in crisis and regional organs simulations.
In 2015, a monetary award was settled for a chair and a delegate who shown outstanding quality at
both conferences. The prerequisite is to participate at both of them, and based on certain criteria 2 people are awarded-them lucky ones! For 2015, was David-Jan Boschaert (you know, Gandalf of MUN) and Eliana Glogauer (you know, Israel's iron lady). For 2016,the Italian superstar George Mullen(s) and Dilshat Zhussupova from Kazakhstan!
Cambridge International Model United Nations:
What they offer:
Free accommodation and free social fee to their chairs *wink wink ,a potential reason to apply maybe?* This year, the acceptance rate of chairs was really slim and they selected only the most dedicated to Model UN people they could engage to their conference.
What happened this year:
Additionally, they released the Hogwarts within and treated their chairs with some puddling on Cambridge's waters and lots of academic challenges for them to meet!An emergency UNGA session (to give you a tip, the real GA doesn't hold that regularly emergency sessions so in a MUN context it becomes even more interesting as an idea),joint sessions on the refugee crisis (although, they may not always turn as they are expected to),special emphasis on the SDGs( UN Women was there-see how easy is to incorporate SDGs in your conference's agenda? If Cambridge shows the way, then why not?)Of course, one of the things that one has always to comment about Cambridge is the Crisis-it may be seen as the end of a crisis legend like Jesse Harrington, but also marked the presence of one of the most talented crisis masterminds, Thomas Barclay.Lastly, only in Cuimun you will see chairs literally competing with each other to get a spot into helping out Jack Smith who was suddenly left alone in a big room(he would be ok without extra people around, but those Cambridge people are pretty damn awesome)
Is Cuimun cool?
When a conference books places all around Cambridge's colleges, based on Hogwarts houses and you find them customized to each house (underground for Slytherin, cozy intellectual for Ravenclaw etc)then you know they nailed coolness.Of course when a conference has a cupid messenger everything becomes better...
Conclusion:Cuimun is like Walt Disney of MUN-proves that dreams are real and all you need is a good plan and a crazy mind to pull them off!
Where to find pictures and videos? There you go, you little curious person!
Oxford International Model United Nations:
What they offer:
Initially, one may think nothing since you have to pay both for accommodation and social events but on the course of the months, you see that this is the cheapest deal that you can actually have since Oxford turns out to be an astonishingly expensive place to be!So,their proposals include always meals, located at a walking distance from everything related to the conference and all of the locations have good wifi connectivity so, at the end, you end up being rather happy than whiney. It goes without saying that they will innovate in a unique Oxfordarian way and they will reset the agenda around topics that one may have thought as boring but had little idea of their actual importance.Of course, they are highly selective because they deserve to be so.
What happened this year:
Most wide representation of committees and International Organs ever happened!Literally a simulation of the International Community to an overwhelming extent!Committees with bloody debates or nasty backstabs passed resolutions of high quality on both of the agenda items, SDGs were everywhere again (even in crisis but again, crisis can be everything simultaneously). The interaction between the committees was on fire all time long since the resolutions were actually answering to questions that other committees have came to during their own respective debates.Special mention to the crisis team that really managed to redefine modern standards of feminism always guided by the loveably twisted mind of Daniel Gindis (nb-Barclay was here again as well,am telling you he is the next crisis mastermind you have been waiting for)
Is OxIMUN cool?
Pointless to ask that dear. They may be reading in a rather old university but they know how to party, drag you into fun and on the same time dazzle you with their knowledge.
OxIMUN is the strongest memory you will ever be able to recall when forced to cast a Patronus spell.
Where to find pictures and videos:There you go, curious person!
Both of the conferences had ICJs with fictional cases (a.k.a finally we are letting law out of the conservative closet)
Both were run by women (insert any Beyonce song here)but both of the crisis were run by men-conclusions are yours to make!
Anyways, the above are my impressions from my visit at the European's muniverse core-enjoy!
PS-You thought I would give away gossips that easily? How naive you are, dear reader...
This article was originally meant to be an online typing of my everyday journal during these 2 weeks-but if that was to happen I would have to vlog or write a novel, this is why it is limited to basic (and interesting stuff on the conferences only and not based that much on the average problems that a MUNer may face while doing that marathon of simulating)
