In November 2015. I had the pleasure of attending the first ever SlovakMUN conference. It took place in the city of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia from November 4th to 8th.
Since it was a first, I was aware that it might not be so
good, and the organizing committee might experience some hiccups. I didn’t mind
that, but, nevertheless, I came to Bratislava well prepared for less than a perfect
Being rarely wrong, I was surprised to find everything running smoothly during the conference. What impressed me the most is how the organizing committee went above and beyond to make everyone’s experience pleasurable.
For the fees we paid, we were accommodated in a very nice
hotel, had two or three (depending on the program of the day) excellent meals
and had the pleasure of working in the chambers of the National council of the
Slovak Republic among other things. The overall impression was more than good.
This was the first MUN I attended where committees merged into the General Assembly during the last two days of the conference, and this was a really valuable experience for me. Although we had intense and interesting debates in our respective committees, the GA was a significantly larger body and that meant the work we had to do was more complex and challenging. There were so much more people to persuade, much more talking and writing to do, and I found it to be exciting and demanding as well as fun.
The skills I acquired and improved while attending SlovakMUN and other conferences will certainly be of good use in the TGIMUNC Secretariat (where I'll have a chance to chair for the first time), and combined with hard work, and the work of my numerous colleagues, they will contribute to making this year’s TGIMUNC the best and the largest MUN conference ever!
