We live in a networked society. Thousands of people spend hours of their daily lives on browsing through their social profiles. Businesses spend billions in promoting their products and services through their social pages. There is almost no situation where social media cannot be used, which means that their use is perfectly suitable for your next MUN.
In the very beginning it is very important to define the parameters and set the tasks you will be dealing with throughout the organization of your MUN. In order to successfully execute any MUN project, you need to have adequate amount of people behind it. Meaning: a lot of DEDICATED and CAPABLE people. Considering that we are talking about an online strategy here, it is of utter importance to have at least some background in social media management. Everything else will come afterwards.
Here are several tips on things you need to have in order to successfully execute “MUN Social”:
Have a plan. Everything dawns with a plan and, unless you have one, all of your efforts are almost worthless. When starting something like a big project, you have to make sure you set your starting point, your ending point, and all the checkpoints in between. Unless you are always able to determine at what of those checkpoints you currently are, you are probably doing something wrong. Also remember that social media planning requires a great deal of communication knowledge and skills so don’t be afraid of acquiring new knowledge by browsing the specialized pages online or reading good books.
Make it a full-time. Dealing with social media DOES require your whole working day, especially if you are dealing with multiple social channels simultaneously. Before you get a hang of this thing, you will have to do a lot of testing to see what kinds of content suit your audiences best. This is a long process that will take days, if not months.

Make sure you DO reach all your target audiences. What’s the point of communicating if your words are not reaching the other party? Shape your communication in such a way which ensures reception by the audience. Out of five tips we are giving, this is a key one. All the other tips you can fail and still somehow get away with it, while if you fail this one all of your efforts were in vain. I suggest finding the similar projects and analyzing their good communication practices that can be applied to your project.
Advertise. When you hear the word “Advertising”, its usually time to check your budget. Surprisingly, there are more ways to advertise for free than to actually pay. Paid advertising happens when word-of-mouth, or number of shares and likes is just not enough, and that is when money needs to step in. However, if you are knowledgeable enough about online communication, you can make a miracle with your project for free. In case you are not, just put the query in Google and be amazed.
Measure the success. So, how did we do? How come you don’t know? Don’t let this scenario ever happen to you. There is a reason why social media promote two-way communication. Through the social media channels, get the feedback from your audience. What you learn now will be used in the organization process of any future MUN conference. I know it will be a lot of numbers, but why are numbers important? Well, because only with numbers you can accurately measure the success of anything.
