One of the best conferences I have attended and which acted as a life changer for me, was SOFIMUN 2014 in Bulgaria. Why a life changer? I am sure none of us can forget their first MUN ever- that familiar feeling of butterflies in our stomachs, first days of RoP confusion, nervousness of starting with public speaking…And at the end the excitement and beginning of MUN addiction, where “I need to do this again” turns into more and more conferences attended, organized and lifelong friendships created.
In SOFIMUN I participated
as the delegate of Pakistan in Human Rights Council, the committee which soon
became my passion. What I enjoyed the most were the topics- by that time not
that much discussed migration in Mediterranean sea and the religious attires in
Europe- which despite its setting managed to get everyone involved, from
countries of the Middle East to Japan. As the relatively small committee we all
had a chance to make our voice be heard and practice our argumentation and
debating skills so that at the end of sessions we became familiar with UN rules
and its functioning. The role of experienced Chairs proved as essential as they
guided us through our first steps with patience, so that at the end of the week
I knew that it is just a question of time before I am MUNing again.
It has been two years and now I am ready to take up a new challenge- to be the Vice Chair
of Global Indian MUN, the biggest MUN conference in the world. Do not hesitate
and apply to begin the journey which will change your life, just as SOFIMUN changed mine. Apply here: tgimunc.com/apply/
