1. The power of personal connections
The International Relations Department is very demanding scientific field that requires a wide range of knowledge in many disciplines. A lot of knowledge can be gained through studies but you should also relay on personal contacts. In order to develop and upgrade your interests, help of other more experienced students or professors can open new horizons. That's why, if you are trying to be excellent student surrender yourself with inspiring, successful people.
2. Accept failures
Only when you can accept losing, you will start winning. In order to achieve great success during your studies, you have to get comfortable with failure. There is no way that you, or anyone else, is going to get it right every time. You must learn to be OK with loses and mistakes because they are inevitable part of your career. And don't forget, failing is probably greater educator than success and you should learn to embrace it and take the best from that situation.
3.Think actively and critically
Don't learn just to memorize. Always challenge yourself to seek for the deeper knowledge. That's why questioning of information that you receive is so important. International Relations is the field full of interest, manipulation and propaganda so you should built your own thinking system in order to become real, independent expert. You should always be looking for arguments in something you read, and then pinpointing the evidence to see how it was used. Don't be afraid of asking big questions or dealing with broad topics. That's how you will gain critical thinking skills that can help you deal with any problem in the rest of your IR career.
4. It all comes down to the PASSION at the end.
In order to become truly successful in anything that you do, you should be driven with real love for that job. Pursue passion, not grades. No one will ever ask you about the grades you had, that information become irrelevant with times. Ambition and innovation are more important than grades every time. That's why every great IR student is moved by curiosity, interest and fascination, not by making the highest scores on a test.
