The draft resolution is expected to come up for adoption in the General Assembly on December 10. This resolution would recognize that "yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being," as Modi's said in his maiden address to the 193 member member states in September. "Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being," said Modi. If adopted, June 21 will become the International Day of Yoga. One of the aims of the importance of promoting healthy life choices and lifestyle in general which is a long-term development objective that requires closer cooperation on both national and international levels.
Many nations co-sponsored the resolution, including the five permanent members of the Security Council: China, France, Russia, UK and the United States. Beside them, there are numerous Asian, European and Latin American countries. One of the big surprises was that nearly 60 per cent of African nations were also co-sponsors.
