In a special interview for abc NEWS, Darren Wilson, the officer who killed Michael Brown, said he had a "clean conscience". Wilson, who shot the 18-year-old on 9 August, told ABC News that in the struggle which preceded the shooting, he had felt "like a five-year-old holding on to Hulk Hogan".
Ferguson's predominantly African-American community called for the murder charges for the officer, but the grand jury decided that Wilson will not face state criminal charges over the shooting.
With at least 45 arrested, protests have now turned into violent clashes in number of cities across the states. So far there are reports from Los Angeles and New York.
National Guard soldiers, some 2200 of them, were deployed to assist police in keeping order in and around the town.
