Confidence in the workplace is a great thing. It helps us secure promotions, wage increases, a reputation for being able to handle situations and much more. Which makes it understandable that a lack of confidence can also work to hinder our workplace progress, on the other hand.
So, what can you do to actively help to grow your confidence at work and ensure that you are making steps forward in everything that you do?
Escape the Comfort Zone
In life, we often construct carefully built comfort zones in order to help us cope with the various stress and issues that we face on a daily basis. It could be the simple break in the coffee room we take every day. It could be staying in the same job for ten years because the change associated with a new venture is too scary to face. Comfort zones vary in size and intensity, but they exist for almost everyone in some form or another.
So, make little steps to try and escape your comfort zone every day. Whether that’s by stepping out and taking a walk on your break instead of hiding in a break room, or taking a giant leap and applying for the job of your dreams. It looks a little different for everyone, but that comfort zone escape can be incredibly rewarding no matter the size of the move.
Don’t Be Afraid to Change
If something is making you unhappy, whether it’s your teeth, your hair colour or even a more vital bit of physical appearance, you should not be afraid to change it. So much stigma surrounds getting procedures such as a mummy makeover and other cosmetic surgery Manchester procedures. But, the fact is that it is your body and therefore if something would help to improve the way your perceive yourself and the way you act, then nothing should be able to stop you from taking that leap. Especially not the office water cooler gossip.
Effect Your Own Environment
Sometimes we create a negative environment surrounding ourselves without even meaning to. And we can do this in ways that may not even be obvious to us, wrapped in them as we are. A negative attitude here, a downtrodden feeling there and you could be feeding the growth of a negative work environment without even realising it. So, think positive and you should be able to achieve a positive outlook as a result. It’s not an exact science, but nor is it exactly hard. This is one of the easiest ways you can grow your confidence at work.
The saying ‘fake it till you make it’ may be old hat advice, but that’s because it actually works and people find plenty of value in it. Often, our only limitations are those that we perceive for ourselves. So, if we believe that we can do X, then you should be able to get through the steps to actually achieving X; even if you don’t necessarily believe that you actually can.
Adopting the mindset of ‘I can’ rather than ‘I can’t’ can be a big step in a new direction for your self esteem.
Overall, growing confidence isn’t only something which can help in your workplace life. It can also be a great way to improve life on the whole; at home, at work and beyond.
